A common question we hear from clients planning new markings is: “How long do line markings take to dry?” It’s an important consideration, especially when the space needs to be reopened quickly — whether it’s a busy car park, warehouse, or school playground.

At C&R Ltd, we work with a variety of materials, each with different drying and curing times. Here’s what you need to know.

Different Materials, Different Drying Times

Thermoplastic
Thermoplastic markings, widely used on UK roads and outdoor car parks, set almost instantly. Once cooled — usually within a few minutes — the surface can be reopened to traffic.

MMA (Methyl Methacrylate)
MMA resin is often used in warehouses and high-wear areas. It typically cures in around 30–60 minutes, depending on temperature.

Epoxy or Polyurethane Paints
For indoor spaces like warehouses or factories, epoxy or polyurethane coatings may be used. These usually take a few hours to dry, and sometimes up to 24 hours to fully cure.

Water-Based Paints
These dry quickly in warm, dry conditions — often within 30 minutes — but may take longer in damp or cold weather.
